PRESS RELEASES - Lost in a Good Book

Last week, WCCS students from Kindergarten to Year Six demonstrated their love of reading by celebrating Book Week. For one period of each day there was a huge “teacher swap”, in which all of the Primary teachers went to a different class and read a book to them. The teachers all got into the spirit of Book Week and even dressed up in the theme of Book Safari.
Students from every class participated in a Book Week competition and the winners were announced at our last assembly. As well as the individual competitions, classes also worked together to decorate their doors in the Book Safari theme. Everyone’s efforts were very impressive but 2T and 4B were awarded the prizes.
Following Book Week, the library hosted a Scholastic Book Fair at which students and parents could purchase great books from lots of different authors. Mrs Smith said that, in just a few days, the library sold over $13,000 worth of books and stationery. The library receives twenty percent of the profit and Mrs Smith is hoping that the money will be used to buy a data projector and novelty mat for the fiction library.
Book Week was a lot of fun for everyone. Mrs Hows said that the best part was “giving away prizes to all the winners of the competitions.” Mr Hosking would probably agree. His costuming effort, combined with his caveman-style roar, meant that he was given the honour of being declared the best-dressed teacher.
Although Book Week is now over, it will come again next year. With another exciting theme and lots of new books to read, it’s bound to be fantastic week once again.
