Learning in Kindergarten is very exciting. Giving a child a good start in schooling is important. Children need to learn a range of essential skills. At the beginning of the year there is so much to learn. In Kindergarten, children start exploring what school is and what is required of them at school. We encourage them to play with their friends respectfully. We teach how to take turns and encourage children to share resources. We examine how to focus on a speaker and ask them to follow directions quickly. These concepts are taught formally and informally.
Year 6 Buddies also help Kindergarten students to adjust to school. At the beginning of the year they are some of the first people outside of the class that the children meet. Buddies can help when saying goodbye to their families in the morning. They show where to play and what can be played. This friendship is built upon throughout the year. We are always grateful for our Buddies.
In Kindergarten children learn sounds and learn how to blend them together. They learn how to stretch words apart when spelling. Children learn how to form letters and numbers. They explore mathematical concepts through whole class, group and individual instruction. Children learn about the world they live in and look at what makes things work. They spend time learning about God through reading the Bible and praying. Children enjoy learning bible songs that reinforce the concepts being taught. They learn that God is our boss and our King, but people want to be their own boss. This is called sin. God sent Jesus to save us from the punishment for our sins if we ask Him to be our King.
In Kindergarten, children learn that learning is fun!

Primary Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea
Primary had a wonderful time at the Primary Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, with many students enjoying the opportunity to spend quality time with their mums, grandmas and mother figures. The photos above were taken at the photobooth set up at the event.
Kids Lit Quiz
Two teams from WCCS went to the Kid’s Lit Quiz heat 3 in Kellyville – a book trivia competition for students aged 10 – 13 years. It is our first year of entry. Our team were crowned champions and we are now headed to the National Final at the State Library of NSW in three weeks time! They are pictured here with author Nat Amoore, who was the host of last week’s heat.
