Welcome Back to Term 4. I hope you and your family had a chance to recharge over the break. As we started the term, I asked my Year 9 class what they enjoyed most during the holidays and what they were looking forward to this term. All the students shared that they cherished the time spent with family and friends. Looking ahead, many mentioned they were keen to finish their exams and assessment tasks.
Term 4 can be a challenging time for many students, with the pressure of final exams and assignments looming. These stresses, along with other pressures in life, can affect students in different ways, often impacting their relationships with family and friends.
The Bible offers timeless wisdom on friendships, which is especially helpful for students navigating these dynamics. True friendship, according to Scripture, is grounded in love, loyalty, support, and sacrifice. Proverbs 18:24 reminds us, “A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” This verse emphasizes the importance of investing in relationships—being trustworthy, caring, and supportive, just as Jesus was with His disciples.
For students, choosing the right friends is crucial. 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns, “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’” Surrounding yourself with friends who encourage positive choices and lift you up spiritually is essential for personal growth.
When conflicts arise in friendships, the Bible provides clear guidance. In Matthew 18:15-17, Jesus teaches that if someone offends you, address the issue privately and seek to resolve it. Approach the situation with humility and honesty, aiming to restore the relationship. If resolution isn’t possible, involve a neutral party to help mediate. This approach encourages open communication and peaceful conflict resolution.
Forgiveness is also key. Ephesians 4:32 urges, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Holding onto anger or grudges only causes division. Instead, be quick to forgive, just as God forgives us.
By applying these biblical principles—love, patience, and forgiveness—even in the face of conflict, students can foster stronger, healthier friendships that reflect God’s love and build meaningful connections.
