In the last newsletter article, we mentioned that the school has a variety of programs that provide students with meaningful experiences that foster a sense of purpose and commitment to the greater good, developing empathy, leadership, and an understanding of societal needs.
Below are some extracurricular activities that provide students with the opportunity to build their wellbeing.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a flexible, engaging, and fun-filled program designed for students in Year 9 and above. With three levels—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—this voluntary program allows participants to create a unique experience tailored to their interests and passions. The award involves four key components:
Through these activities, students develop important lifelong skills, including teamwork, determination, perseverance, problem-solving, and cooperation.
One such program run in the Mathematics Department is the Australian Problem-Solving Mathematical Olympiad. This competition provides opportunity for high achieving secondary students to showcase their maths problem solving skills and compete against teams from other schools. It also encourages creativity, ingenuity, and flexibility in tackling complex problems.
Congratulations to the following students who achieved distinction certificates in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) and Top 10% and 25% in the APSMO (Australian Problem-Solving Mathematical Olympiads).

These achievements reflect the dedication and talent of our students, as well as the supportive environment created by our teaching staff. We are proud of the students who have demonstrated excellence in these programs and look forward to seeing their continued growth.
William Carey musicals are always significant community events. Students across the whole school can participate while students in Years 5–11 have the exciting opportunity to audition for a part in the school musical, taking on a variety of roles. Involvement in the school musical fosters creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence while enhancing communication and problem-solving skills. It provides an outlet for self-expression, helps students build lasting friendships, and teaches valuable time management skills.
Participation also instills resilience, promotes inclusivity, and deepens appreciation for the performing arts, culminating in a rewarding sense of accomplishment.
We are excited to announce that the 2025 School Musical will be The Little Mermaid. We look forward to seeing the incredible talents of our students shine on stage.
