High School 8/3: From Classroom to Home: Maximizing Student Success Through Ongoing Collaboration and Communication

Over the last two weeks, parents had the opportunity to meet their child’s teachers. Our Meet the Teacher interviews, at the beginning of the year, are important for fostering collaboration and understanding between staff and parents. They establish a partnership for the student’s success, fostering a positive learning environment both at home and in school.

These nights are just the start of the collaboration that must continue throughout the year for the best outcome. ‘Collaboration and Communication’ is one of our Carey attributes, where we work together to build all members of our community and achieve our shared goals, using our diverse gifts and skills in partnership with others and speaking the truth in love.

There are many ways in which you can communicate with staff or receive information about the school.  This will depend on the type of information that needs to be discussed.

  • The family portal and School App will provide you with lots of information about the school processes and any details about your child.
  • For simple messages, writing in the student’s planner is a good way to inform your child’s teacher.
  • For general welfare concerns, you can email your child’s Pastoral Care Teacher.
  • For classwork questions, you can email your child’s Subject Teacher.
  • If you need to request a meeting, please email the staff member or call the High School Student Office.

Lastly, I would like to recommend a book that I have read recently.  Raising Tech-Healthy Humans by Daniel Sih. It is a positive, researched handbook to teach parents strategies to set up their children and pre-teens with healthy tech and non-tech habits for life. It is about reflecting on habits and how to use conversations with our children. Communication is the best tool we have for life and love.

The book is written for busy parents who are stretched for time. This engaging 2-hour read will inspire, encourage, and guide you in the wonderfully complex task of raising tech-healthy humans. See below for ‘A Guide to Smarter Screen Choices for Your Kids’ which will provide some simple ideas or open the PDF HERE.

Yours Sincerely,

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” James 1:19

Earlier this Term, Year 12 visited the University of Wollongong to get a first hand experience of university life. They attended lectures, toured the campus and enjoyed lunch with their friends at The Duck Pond. It was a great opportunity for students to explore and consider university as an option in the future.
