High School 9/2: Fostering a positive and thriving environment in the new year

 Welcome Back!

As we start a new academic year, it is with great enthusiasm that I extend a warm welcome to our high school community’s returning and new families. The journey ahead promises growth, discovery, and shared accomplishments.

You will soon be receiving communication about upcoming Meet the Teacher Evenings.  This opportunity is crucial for fostering effective communication and collaboration between teachers and parents. They provide an opportunity to discuss a student’s progress, strengths, and areas needing improvement. This partnership enhances the overall learning experience, ensuring a supportive environment at both home and school for the child’s academic and personal development.

The school has been working on creating a document that clearly articulates to students what makes and fosters, a positive and thriving environment. The Code of Conduct is based on Christian principles that reflect value in the individual and care for others, fairness, and appropriate consequence when necessary. We expect our students to engage fully in learning opportunities, demonstrate respect and exercise care for their peers, staff, and the wider school community. We teach and model the Carey Attributes and the behaviours we value in our School. These form a framework for treating others in Christ-like ways and exercising love for one another, in response to God’s love for us (Matthew 22:38).

We must collectively uphold and abide by the principles outlined in our Student Code of Conduct. The 3 main parts are:

  • Respect stands as a cornerstone in our community, inspiring the values of empathy, care, and compassion. As members of this diverse high school family, it is imperative that we treat one another with kindness and consideration, recognising the unique qualities that each individual brings to our shared educational experience.
  • Safety is paramount in creating a conducive learning environment. Our commitment to the physical and emotional well-being of every student is unwavering. By prioritising safety, we create a space where students can explore, learn, and grow without fear, enabling them to reach their full potential.
  • Engagement in learning is the key to unlocking one’s true potential. Our high school is a place where curiosity is cultivated, and where understanding is built through experiences and tackling challenges. Active participation in the learning process, both inside and outside the classroom, is essential for personal and collective academic success.

Together, let us embark on this academic journey with respect, safety, and a commitment to engage in learning. By upholding these principles, we enrich our high school experience and contribute to creating a supportive and inspiring community for all.!
