Prep 22/11: Kindergarten Orientation and Setting up for School Success

Kindergarten Orientation and Setting Up for School Success

The Prep children have enjoyed opportunities to visit and spend time in some of the Kindergarten classrooms with Kindergarten teachers. These visits have allowed them to become familiar with the Primary School environment, as well as some of the routines and experiences of Kindergarten.

During their visits, the children have practised lining up and sitting in the Primary Quad, listened to stories and songs, engaged in table activities focused on numeracy or literacy, and enjoyed playtime in their new surroundings. These experiences are helping to prepare them for a smooth and confident transition to Kindergarten.

One of my favourite podcasts, Pop Culture Parenting, from renowned developmental paediatrician and dad, Dr Billy Garvey, has a terrific episode on School Success. It is one of the many topics well worth a listen for practical and evidence based guidance. Dr Billy reminds us that it takes a village as he points to strong partnership between school and home as a well research backed foundation for setting up for school success.
