This week in Prep we have been delighted to see the diversity in cultural backgrounds represented in our children’s clothing, the home languages shared, learning about our teachers’ cultural backgrounds and celebrating that our School culture is defined by unity. Our lessons have been focussed around God’s plan to invite people from all nations to belong to His forever family as we trust in King Jesus.
Mrs Elachy taught the children about dancing with scarves from Assyria.
Families from the Philippines taught us: Kamusta ! (Hello) , Má na Po (Respect to elderly).
Families from Nigeria taught us: Hello or how are you is “Bawo ni” in Yoruba language and other person should respond by saying “daa daa ni” which means “I’m good”.
Families from India and taught us Malayalam: How are you- ” enthu undu vishesham” and Fijian Indian families taught us Hindi: “Aap kai se hai?”, “How are you?”. “Hum right hai”, “I’m good”.
Families from Serbia taught us: “Hello in Greek is yiasou. Hello in serbian is kakosi. Goodmorning in greek is kalimera.” Many more families shared their home languages with us as well and we thank them.
