Prep 7/6: Walking Together: Prep Students Celebrate National Reconciliation Week

Walking Together: Prep Students Celebrate National Reconciliation Week

The Prep children, as well as some Primary students, participated in recognising National Reconciliation Week through stories, songs and art activities to learn about and acknowledge the histories and culture of First Nations people. Our collaborative art activity through the week was inspired by the vibrant artwork of Gubbi Gubbi artist Maggie Douglas, which featured as the theme for National Reconciliation Week for 2024. The chevron (forward pointing design) encourages connecting with one another, understanding and continuing to move forward. The teachers and children noticed which way the pattern was pointing and stood facing that direction. They talked about who the first people to walk in this place and care for Country were. We shared conversations about how our footprints could show we are walking together and caring for this place and each other.
