Prep 8/11: Preparing for Kindergarten: Excitement for Our Prep Students

Preparing for Kindergarten: Excitement for Our Prep Students

Many of our Prep children are getting excited about heading off to Kindergarten in the new year. One of the benefits of the Prep experience is the tailored transition to school program within our School environment which has supported all the children to become familiar with the School setting throughout the year. The children have especially enjoyed visits to the Library and regular visits from Primary School classes to play with us. This term, the Second Steps program focuses on explicitly equipping the children with specific skills they will require for Kindergarten readiness.

They have been learning:

  • steps for how to join in play
  • words to use to solve a problem
  • asking assertively
  • thinking of solutions
  • ready to learn routines
  • using self talk to remember routines and follow directions
  • making new friends in Kindergarten

Times of change and transition in all kinds of situations can be a time that brings some anxiety for everybody, grown ups too. As you prepare yourselves and your child for the move to Kindergarten, focus on the many positive things to look forward to. Over the next few weeks our program is designed to present frequent opportunities for exposure to support the children with their familiarisation and sense of anticipation.
