Primary 15/9: Empathy and compassion

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Over the last few weeks, the students have been exploring the concept of empathy. In Galatians 6:2 it reads, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfil the law of Christ.”

During our morning assemblies, we take a moment to explain and remind the students about empathy (the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person), identify their own and others’ feelings (teaching our students how to identify their own feelings and those of others), notice and respect same and different feelings (people have the similar and different feelings about the same situation), and show compassion (saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels).

When students can identify, understand, and respond caringly to someone else’s feelings, it helps create a positive and accepting school environment. We encourage you to talk with your child about empathy and these important components of the Second Step program. By working together, parents, teachers and students can assist in creating a school setting that is academically enriching and emotionally supportive.

Thank you for supporting William Carey in nurturing empathetic and compassionate students.

Kind regards,

Mrs Gillian Coote

Primary Deputy Principal

Primary Dance was a blast!

Our Primary students had an absolute blast at the Primary Dance & BBQ on Tuesday! Everyone (including teachers) danced up a storm on the dance floor, and families savored delicious BBQ treats. Thank you to all of the staff and CPC for your effort!
