Primary 5/5/23: Loose parts play

Welcome back to Term 2. I’m looking forward to the weeks ahead and the many opportunities you will have to be involved here at William Carey such as the upcoming Mothers Day afternoon tea. I would love to see you there.

While I was growing up, my father worked in the building industry and he often brought home old or unused equipment. I always looked forward to making some creative play pieces with my brothers, sister, and friends using these ‘loose parts’. During the Parent Information Evening earlier this year, I shared that we will soon have our very own loose parts play in our primary playground. I am particularly excited about this opportunity to provide a variety of activities for students to engage in during recess and lunch that encourage creative thinking. See below the clip I shared on that night for more information.

Upon our return to Term 2 at school, we could see the beginning stages of the construction of the ‘loose parts’ play area.

I was surprised to see construction beginning so quickly (thank you to our incredible maintenance team) and we need your help! Over the next few weeks, a survey will come home where you can let us know if you have a job similar to my father with different resources that would fit into our loose parts play area. We are looking for all sorts of things to include, below are some examples.

I am looking forward to working with you to build on your child’s experiences here at William Carey and encourage creative thinking.

Kind regards,

Mrs Gillian Coote

Deputy Principal Primary

Cross Country Fun

Our year 2-6 students participated in a thrilling cross country event during week 1. Our little athletes put on quite a show, displaying exceptional athleticism, determination, and teamwork. The energy was high, and everyone had a great time cheering for their teammates.
