A Heartwarming Visit: Prep Students Connect with Residents at Prestons Lodge

Dear Parents and Carers,

My bucket is full. On Wednesday, I had the immense pleasure of accompanying our Prep students to visit the residents of Prestons Lodge, our local aged care home.

The day began with an undeniable buzz of excitement. The Prep students were so enthusiastic, their cheerful chatter filling the air as they climbed onto the bus. The anticipation of meeting their friends at Prestons Lodge was palpable. Yet, with smiles on their faces, they waited patiently, ready for the day to unfold.

Upon our arrival, we found the residents calm but eager, anticipating the laughter and joy that would soon fill the room. When the residents caught sight of their friends from William Carey, their excitement was evident—two of the residents even shed a tear when they saw the Prep students arrive. The residents straightened in their seats, their eyes bright with joy. Conversations began immediately as everyone engaged in crafts, puzzles, and playdough. The room echoed with the joyful exchange of questions, stories, and laughter.

What struck me most was the depth of the interactions that unfolded. In Titus 2, Paul, the Apostle, emphasizes the value of intergenerational relationships, urging older generations to share their wisdom, faith, and character with the younger. When the Prep students asked what they could share with the residents, one of our godly students confidently responded, “How much Jesus loves them.” This shared faith and love was truly inspiring.

For me, it was more than just a visit; it was a meaningful connection between generations. I watched in awe as I saw young and old together, bridging decades with shared stories, respect, and genuine care and mimicking the message shared in Titus 2.

God shows us that these moments hold a simple yet profound truth: connection knows no boundaries of age. Witnessing the pure joy that filled the room was humbling and heartwarming. My heart swelled as I observed the respect and affection flowing between the generations, leaving a lasting impact on everyone present.

I cannot thank Ms Morphett, Ms Taylor and Ms Martin enough for your kind invitation. My heart remains full, and your thoughtful planning and execution made this experience truly heartwarming.
