Oh what a night! Last Saturday I attended the Creative and Performing Arts ‘A Little Night Music’ with performers from K-12, along with over 300 supportive audience members. The quality of performances was outstanding from all musicians. The program was a full, with so many students keen to perform.
This community evening has been running for over a decade and while it had humble beginnings, our current music staff and tutors have built it to be a great celebration of music and creative gifting from God. Not only would I like to thank our students for their efforts and parents and family for their support, I also wish to acknowledge the commitment of our staff in generating a love of music in so many of our students and in providing performance opportunities to build their confidence and experience.
We have two upcoming large scale community events on our school calendar.
40th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service
The School’s 40th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service will be held on Thursday 20th June. This will be a wonderful evening of reflection and celebration with student and staff performances, videos marking key moments in the school’s history, prayer, singing and encouragement in relation to the school’s mission and vision. The service will be followed by a light supper. All past, present and future members of the William Carey community are welcome. We have already received RSVPs from over 350 guests, it’s going to be an amazing night. If you intend to join us for this evening, and are yet to do so, please RSVP so we can plan seating and catering. Please RSVP here: wccs.nsw.edu.au/40th.
Fun Fair:
Planning for the Fun Fair on Sat, 24th August is well underway, and it is shaping up to be another great community event. The afternoon event will have markets, a petting zoo, a silent auction, face painting, great food and of course the rides.
WCCS Fun Fairs are a well loved community event. Arm bands are now available for $35.85 giving you 4hrs of unlimited rides. You can purchase your arm bands by clicking here Fun Fair – William Carey Christian School
Keep an eye out for more information about how you can support the Fun Fair through sponsorship, donations and volunteering on the day.
Building Fund Drive:
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind families that the School’s Building Fund drive is wrapping up for the 2023/4 financial year. A reminder email will be sent to all families in the coming week outlining details on how to donate. Previously, funds raised have provided for the Primary Loose-Parts playground, refurbishment of Hall toilet facilities and car park improvements to assist with traffic flow.
In the coming year, we look forward to the addition of new learning spaces and renovation of the Primary Quad bathroom facilities. Please seriously consider donating to our Building Fund either personally, or from your business.
Kids Lit Quiz – Outstanding results for WCCS!
This year was the first time we have had students compete in the Kids Lit Quiz. The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10 – 13 years. This year 350 Australian school teams entered. After taking first place in their Sydney heat, the William Carey team competed at the national level placing 4th. This is an outstanding result for our students Isaac, Oliver, Phoenix, and Violet.
Quizzes are held in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand and the USA. Teams of four students are asked to answer 100 questions on children’s literature divided into ten categories, which vary each year. Examples of categories set previously include poetry, authors, titles, settings, characters, and nursery rhymes.
Reading is a lifelong skill that improves memory, builds a robust vocabulary and foundation of knowledge, and adds a richness and depth of meaning to life for all those who can access true, deep comprehension.
It is not only exciting that our students have performed so well in their first attempt at this competition, but also engaging our students in such an important part of lifelong learning. Reading isn’t just about learning to communicate. Reading is important to foster a relaxed, inspiring, and enjoyable life filled with incredible stories, relatable characters, and the ability to broaden or deepen your knowledge just by picking up a book. In addition to all these individual benefits, there is a wealth of research that shows that reading about the experiences of others (whether it is fiction or biographies) provides the opportunity for the reader to experience new social experiences and see the world through others’ eyes and in turn, develop the habits of mind that enhance empathy toward others and critical thinking.
God bless,

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
